Subject

When they had gone, an angel of the Lord
appeared to Joseph in a dream. "Get up," he
said, "take the child and his mother and
escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for
Herod is going to search for the child to kill
him." So he got up, took the child and his
mother during the night and left for Egypt,
where he stayed until the death of Herod.

Description

White field. 3 figures against background of
swaying palm tree which are bent to the right.
Female figure in red robe with black scarf having
blue dots on head; holding small figure in
yellow. Both on top of spotted four legged
creature. Male figure wearing black and yellow
holding stick stands behind others. (A woodcut
on rice paper depicting a biblical interpretation
of Matthew 2:13-15a, executed in the Katzome
(stencil print) manner. Joseph, Mary and the
Christ Child are depicted with Joseph leading
Mary and Child on a donkey. The woodcut is
mounted on mat board.)
