This site provides a digital window into the various items housed at Kristine Kay Hasse Memorial Library on the Campus of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis.

Not only does Hasse Library have unique manuscripts and early printed books in our special collections, but our library stacks contain early printed and nineteenth-century treasures that provide a glimpse into a fascinating part of LCMS (The Lutheran Church -- Missour Synod) and Missouri history.

Concordia Seminary Library has a Special Collection of over 6,000 rare items, such as composer J.S. Bach’s personal, annotated Bible. The collection houses about 50 manuscripts and books for which we have the sole OCLC records and includes hand illuminated manuscripts that pre-date the printing press, such as a 12th century vellum manuscript of Pope Gregory the Great’s Homilies on Ezekiel and a 15th century German manuscript on astrology and medicine.

Concordia Seminary is home to one of the top theological libraries in the United States — the largest Lutheran library in North America, in fact. This essential component of rich academic life supports a robust environment of teaching, learning and theological research.
