Subject

Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his
mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and
Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother
there, and the disciple whom he loved
standing nearby, he said to his mother, "Dear
woman, here is your son," and to the disciple,
"Here is your mother." (John 19:25-27a)

Description

White field. Heavy black outlines. Red 52x45cm
cruciform with flared arms dominates the work.
Lower edge of cross bar is echoed in black line
5cm under bar. A bearded male figure with
white skin is attached to the front of the cross.
Ribs, muscles, and kneecaps in limbs are
indicated in black lines. Black dots in palms and
on crossed feet. Yellow cloth wrapped hips.
Head hangs to figure's left shoulder. Two other
figures kneel at the foot of the cross, one on
either side. The one on the left is in a green &
black striped robe and has long blue hair. The
one on the right is robed in yellow and black
horizontal stripes with long black hair. Both have
their hands folded and hold them to their
bowed heads. The ground is indicated by 3 black
mounds one under each figure.
